It gives guests the chance to get behind the wheel of a range of luxury late-model car rental options. Take your pick from a racy Ford Mustang convertible, a Ford Focus RS, Mini Cooper S Clubman, or a G6E Turbo Ford Falcon.

There are several scenic short drives and day trips around the city. Route 6 Prestige Rentals is a great car rental option for visitors keen to explore. One of the most popular short drives from Invercargill is along the southern scenic route to Riverton, affectionately known as the ‘riviera of the south’. The road gently weaves its way past acres of farmland and over rivers. The Takitimu mountains are visible in the distance.

It’s easy to uncover a taste of Southland when you have your own car rental.  The coastal town of Riverton is not only one of Southland’s oldest settlements, but one of its most charming.

Victorian architecture lines much of the main street, while the panoramic views of the water gives this Riverton a vibe all its own. Te Hikoi Southern Journey Heritage Museum tells the story of the local area. The museum has even been recognised nationally for its fascinating displays. Quirky cafes such as The Crib add to the town’s ambience. It features a retro vibe and their delicious homemade baking is a real treat. Stroll the town’s quaint streets and find a multitude of artists’ studios, thrift stores, eco-friendly centres and more. We recommend The Good Studio for those searching for retail therapy.

Jump back into your car rental and continue exploring. Taking a left after crossing the Oreti River Bridge will take you to the Riverton Rocks and Taramea Bay. The Beach House Café offers a gorgeous view of the water below, and has outdoor seating to take advantage of the vista. Don’t miss the chowder!

If you’re looking for things to do in Invercargill, have a chat with The Lodges team about our car rental company Route 6. Just thirty minutes from Invercargill, Riverton is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a slice of Southland. And Route 6 is undoubtedly the best way to get there.
